Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

We, at KN Crowder, have always made a conscious effort to reduce the environmental impact of our production facilities and products.

In line with these practices, we would like to outline how our products and practices fit into Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Recycled content and regionally sourced materials are standard objectives in our operations, as well as the recycling of materials during our manufacturing process.

Many of our aluminum products are produced with 6000 series aluminum billet, made in Canada, and eligible for LEED v4 compliance. The extruded aluminum we use is 100% recyclable and undergoes an up-to-date, environmentally-friendly anodizing process that ensures these products are as sustainable as possible. The steel and stainless steel we source always contain recycled content where possible, our vinyl extrusions contain some recycled PVC, and our molded nylon components also contain recycled material.

Re-use of packaging is also automatic and when not possible materials are recycled. Standard brown cardboard is used for packaging. For larger projects, products are bulk packaged, thereby often reducing cardboard consumption by 75% or more.

To simplify how some of our products can help your project achieve points under LEED v4 and v4.1, we have provided the following types of documentation:

Health Product Declarations (HPDs) for all aluminum thresholds

A HPD is a document that reports and discloses information about the ingredients of a product and its associated health information. Its format and guidelines are overseen by the Health Product Declaration Collaborative.

Manufacturer inventories for select weatherstrip products

A manufacturer inventory is similar to an HPD, as it is a report disclosing ingredient information of a product and its associated health information. It however, does not have a set format or a governing body.

Clear Air certification for all thresholds and weatherstrip products
